FFA has two of it’s fighters and instructors make successful debuts at Bare Knuckle Fighting Championships: KnuckleMania 2 this past weekend in Hollywood, Florida. The rules are similar to boxing, except it’s five 2 minute rounds, and there is no padding over the knuckles. The short rounds and the lack of padding makes these fights high paced and brutal.
Up first was Edgard Plazaola, who had a tough opponent in Chevvy Bridges. Early in the fight, Chevvy was out scoring Edgard as he found his range early. However, as the fight progressed, so did Edgard.
In the third round, Edgard embraced fighting on the inside and getting into exchanges, which paid off big for him. He landed one big right hand that stunned Chevvy, and then followed up with two more big right hands that dropped his opponent. Chevvy couldn’t get up and the fight was called, adding another KO to Edgard’s record and staying undefeated in combat sports.
Christine Vicens was next, who was the opening bout of the main event card. Christy was up against Jade Masson-Wong, who was the heavy favorite. But Christy was going to spoil the fight for the bookies, as she went to work right away and battered Jade, opening up a big cut on her that got worse and worse. Ultimately, the fight was stopped by the doctor at the beginning of the third round as the cut had gotten out of control.
Overall, it was a great performance by our team, and as a coach I’m very proud of both of them. When you see them at the gym, make sure to give them a high five. 🙂
